Oba Simba represents perfectly the new conscious Reggae Roots Music straight from Jamaica. His smooth voice and sweet melodies take you into a true spiritual meditation. The Voice of the People is simply the upcoming Jamaican Reggae artist with tunes such as Two Roads, Movin on, Lion Touch... Oba Simba has his own artistic world inspired by classical artists like Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown, Toots Hibbert...The first thing that will grab you about this dynamic yet humble artist is his name Oba Simba, meaning King of the Lions. Next will be his crisp sounding voice that rings sweeter than any bell. Then comes his mind-stimulating lyrics that cut straight to the thruth on whatever topic he chooses to write about; and with an image that compliments all of this, Oba Simba is a natural star.
Armed with a new team (management and booking agency), Oba recently created a big impact at the MIDEM 2007 in Cannes (France). Sharing stage with stars such as Shaggy, Etana, Tessanne Chin, Daville and others, Oba captured the crowd in true contemporary and authentic reggae style. Highlighting him as a super star for the near nature.
Oba Simba was born in December 1971 in heartease, St. Thomas and grew up in Allman Town central Kingston. He shows an early interest in music but it was while attending Trench Town comp. High school that he developed his writing and performing skills. He would perform on almost every school concert or even in his classroom when the teacher was not there.
During those school years, Simba displayed fine leadership Qualities and was elected Headboy and Student Councilor of the school. Under the stage name Sir Prince, he entered the Teen Star Search Talent competition and was placed second; that led to him topping many other talent competitions in and around his community including the Tastee Talent Concert. One of his most memorable moments was sharing stage with Lt. Stitchie (who was the most popular act at the time) and stealing the show.Â
In 2002 while at a Songwriters Boot Camp, Simba met producer Mikey Bennett and out of that came 'New Day' a track written by Oba Simba and performed by Abijah and 'Bring It On' performed by Simba himself.
